Here is the 2009 release from NY's IZZ. They combine the songwriting talents of a Paul McCartney or Pete Ham (Badfinger) with the symphonic prog arrangements of a Wind & Wuthering-era Genesis or, probably more on point for this album, the Yes of "Going For the One"! While the previous efforts drew more heavily on Genesis ("My River Flows") or King Crimson ("I Move"), "The Darkened Room" is a concept album in the grand tradition of Yes at their peak! Tied together by the very excellent three part suite "Can't Feel the Earth" this album is just one gem after another! Grand prog in the finest tradition. Not ground-breaking but solid and masterful and memorable!
Highlighted by the fine keyboard work of Tom Galgano and the incredible guitar playing of Paul Bremner, "The Darkened Room" will be a most welcome addition to even the already comprehensive collection of the most avid fan of this beloved genre. Probably up with Thieves' Kitchen's "The Water Road" as one of the best symphonic prog albums of the last 20 years!
