A CDR-only release (no label) by Radio Piece III keyboardist/composer Makucevich. Composed of two computer-manipulated suites this CDR is the epitome of experimentalism. For "The Tents of Dr. Aegis" (in 3 parts) Makucevich has taken samples from old 78 rpm records and reassembled the sounds into a new composition. He has used fragments of classical music, country music, big band jazz and novelty recordings from the pre-LP era to achieve something totally unique! In "The Metal Jungle" he has taken electric guitar recordings by musician C.W.Vrtacek and manipulated them in a similar fashion to make his soundscapes. This type of electronic composition - known as 'musique concrete' - was extrememly popular amongst the early electronic pioneers such as Varese & Mauricio Kagel. In fact this owes a great debt to Kagel's landmark 'musique concrete' work "Acustica". Released on the German classical label Deutsche Grammophon in 1971 as a double LP. A groundbreaking work combining acoustic instruments (all invented by Kagel!) with a four-track electronic tape of manipulated sounds (kitchen utensils and appliances I am led to believe!!). Makucevich's experiments here are a contemporary expression of that pioneering concept. An EP clocking in at just under 24mins but worth every penny to the adventurous listener who will be rewarded many times over!
