American group Pentwater date as far back as 1970! Taking their cue originally from the jazz-rock genre it wasn't long before the band started writing in the style of other emerging groups of the era - Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant and ELP, to name a few. With the somewhat unusual line-up of three guitarists, bass, drums and keyboards they managed to be very flexible. One guitarist doubled on violin and flute. Another doubled on oboe and all six members sang! Their most obvious influence is probably ELP, though Pentwater's larger line-up and more varied instrumentation make their music more attractive and less bombastic than their famous mentors.
