Kurgan's Bane are a Baltimore-based quartet of guitar, bass, drums & lead female vocals. They had two previous releases that didn't really make the cut, so to speak. The first album (released 1997) entitled "Search From Sea to Sea" is apparently out-of-print and showed some promise but the melodies were fairly standard and the vocals were unimpressive. The second release was called "The Future Lies Broken" and featured current singer Lisa Francis. The writing was much improved and the production also a step ahead. The vocals were very promising but not quite there in the melody department, yet. On their third album "Camouflaged in Static" the band has hit their stride. The style is very melodic neo-prog with hints at prog-metal at times. Think Landmarq (with Tracy Hitchings singing) crossed with Leger de Main and you get the idea. The guitar playing - which was always more than pleasing - is in ample supply here as well. If you like heavy prog with classy female vocals then this is your kind of music!
