Beautiful work from Canadian multi-instrumentalist Robin Gaudreault guitars, basses, keyboards, flutes & voice. He is ably assisted by Jacques Livernoche on drums, percussion; Eric Brassard on electric guitar; Martin Gagnon on electric guitar; plus several singers & woodwind players. To say that the result is an album that Steve Hackett would have been proud to have made in 1975 or that The Moody Blues would kill to take credit for, is an understatement! Though those verbose, histrionic statements give you some idea of the glorious sound of this disc, they also leave you with the impression that this is yet another derivative "prog-rock" exercise - it is not! I hope you can believe me when I say that this is not the cynical production of a failed wannabe, but the expression of a true artist with something to say musically (the lyrics are in French and, alas, my French is rather poor so I can't really comment on that aspect). I can say that in the same way that it doesn't matter that I can't understand what PFM are singing on "Per Un Amico" , not understanding French that well in no way distracts me from the beautiful music on this disc. There are some lovely mellotron passages coupled with acoustic guitar which go a long way to making me think of the past artists that I do but I can get lost in this music so that I don't think of PFM, Camel, Genesis, Hackett of The Moody Blues while I am listening. While I am listening to "Au-Dela des Ombres" I am listening to Ere G. !
