On this 1999 album Stauss takes another different path into ECM territory as he runs through a set of compositions that would have been right at home on that label around 1978! The instrumentation is also typically unusual as one might find on an ECM album. Stauss on tenor, bass & soprano sax ; Hans Anliker on trombone ; Pit Kayser on leyboards ; Olivier Vogt on viola & violin. As one might expect this has a certain classical chamber music feel to it at times fueled most obviously by the absence of bass & drums. While some of the 7 pieces on this disc are rearrangements of tunes that have appeared in radically different version on earlier albums Stauss has been involved with, they are almost completely unrecognizable from the original versions which tended to be in a more loose jazzy style. This great artist continues to amaze and surprise us!
