Ex-Egg/National Health bassist/composer's solo album of Celtic inspired melodies layered with Stavinskian sensibilities and filtered through Arvo Part! What that means is that Mont has taken his love of Celtic music and written a bunch of distinctive melodies arranged as only he could. He was not able to escape, nor did he apparently try to escape, his formal musician's training. This led to some comparisons with composers such as Stravinsky, Barber, Vaughn-Williams, or Prokofiev. Also I hear some of the new breed of "mystic" composers such as Arvo Part, Pieters Vasks, Tan Dun, or John Taverner in there. Dreamy but not sleepy soundscapes that touch the soul in a profound way. I don't know how much of what I perceive is actually that which influenced Campbell to write the way he does or how much is just that he is probably in tune with that universe from the beginning, but whatever the impetus the result is pure bliss!
