This is the 2010 release by Radio Piece III keyboardist/composer Tom Makucevich. Tom plays all the keyboards & computer as well as some guitar. He is helped only by two additional guitarists on two of the eighteen tunes. Musically this is pure composition and the only parallel I can draw is to Zappa's "Jazz From Hell" and parts of Radio Piece III's output. The album consists of eighteen titles many of which run together so that the listener can't actually tell where one piece ends and the next begins. According to the cover the music is two suites + 6 individual pieces. Starting off with "Eight Cartoons" (tracks 1-8) , then 2 independent pieces ("Uronetef" & the title track "Nefitef") followed by the four-part "Tunxis Hill" and finishing with four more independent pieces - "By The Time We Get To Neptune", "The Hollow", "Sci-Fi" & "Figures in the Mist". The music is cerebral ala 20th century classical music and Frank Zappa's more "academic" stuff and then it is visceral recalling Radio Piece III or Zappa's more earthy music. Lots of nimble melodic lines, counterpoint and surprises. This is what the term "progressive" really means! For fans of Radio Piece III and Zappa's synclavier works this CD is a no-brainer addition to your shelves. Warning: absolutely no mellotron! [still available are Radio Piece III "Tesseract & Monuments" and Tom's first solo CDR "Computer Tunes"]
