Allegri Leprotti have been around since the 70s making uncompromising music influenced by the "Rock In Opposition" movement typified by groups like Henry Cow, Stormy Six, a.o. Allegri Leprotti's music is somewhat more melodic and less 'dark' than most of the RIO bands. Comparisons on the Italian scene could include Picchio Dal Pozzo, Opus Avantra, Ultima Spiaggia and Stormy Six to name a few. There is certainly an influence of Frank Zappa and also of the English Canterbury groups in places as well. Instrumentation of the band is as follows: drums/xylophone/percussion - vocals/flute/piano/keyboards - guitars - vocals/mandolin/bagpipes - double bass/electric bass/oud/saz. Then there are guests on tenor sax, vocals, violin, percussion, mellotron, clarinet, and duduk. The lyrics are very tongue-in-cheek, talking about everyday situations in a surreal manner. If you like your prog on the avant side this is a great release! Fans of the aforementioned groups as well as Albert Marcouer, Stackridge, The Muffins and Rascal Reporters will enjoy this album a great deal! Anyway, this is one of the best releases from Italy in quite a while!
